i got the jvm error 513 message
im about to reinstall the os
i really hope i didnt lose my numbers
i dont care about anything else though

it was locked
and i gave my friend my phone cuz he wanted to see if he could guess the password
and he said he took the battery out and put it back in and got the message
I think he used up all 10 guesses on the password

all 10 guesses shouldnt give any error and it wipes the device. at that point you lose all personal information.

so anyone can just take my phone while its locked and wipe my entire memory
that doesnt sound right

it would be a security feature. that is why you keep backups of your device.

And your friend would have been warned of the wipe and had to type "blackberry" as a precaution beforehand. Why was he trying to guess the password?

This is a security featue in case it is stolen, it is wiped to keep confidential information from the thief.

The good news is... if you have only had the BB for a week, you surely still have the important phone data elsewhere that was on the BB? Yes?

and it prompts twice to type the word blackberry. before the last saying it will delete all information on the device.
