I'm wondering how to view a local HTML file in the BlackBerry (8800) web browser. More specifically, I'm wondering how to actually type things in the web browser's URL field to view a local HTML file.

Assuming the name of the file I wish to view is called test.html, on a normal desktop browser this can be done by typing 'file:///c:/test.html' (and also assuming it's located at c:\).

When I transfer this test.html file to the BlackBerry (using Media Manager), the first directory that I can place it in is 'My BlackBerry/Device Memory'. If I try the following URL combinations to view this local HTML file, an error message pops up saying 'A problem occurred while trying to render the page':

file:///test.html
file:///My.BlackBerry/Device.Memory/test.html (pressing space results in '.' character instead of blank space for some reason)
file:///My%20BlackBerry/Device%20Memory/test.html

Can someone explain:
a) Is it possible to view a local HTML file (i.e., an HTML file that is saved to the BlackBerry somewhere)?
b) If it *is* possible to view a local HTML file, what URL syntax should be used to open the local HTML file in the BlackBerry web browser?

Greg, I could be wrong, but I don't think it is possible, in regards to Questions 1 and 2.

You will need to load your html file to a server site, and go to it from your browser to view it.

Of course, if I am incorrect, another will let us know.

I would like to know this as well, as Symantec Backup Exec sends reports in HTML to my blackberry. This would be nice to view on it locally.

Blackberrys don't do HTML email.

Its not an email. Its an HTML attachment. As much as I'd love HTML email to come to the blackberry, I should at least be able to view a HTML ATTACHMENT with my browser. Thats what the browser is for isnt it? Viewing HTML?

Do a search. I remember reading a recent thread and the same question came up. The answer was "it can't be done." as I recall. You might want to try Handango - Windows Mobile, Palm OS, BlackBerry and Symbian Smartphone Software Downloads and see if there is a third party program that can to the trick. Maybe opera-mini (www.opera.com)?

Try Gmail to see if it will render it correctly.

Also, if behind a BES, it is very easy to setup and install a quick web server using something like WAMP. I have WAMP running on my computer and can access HTML files easily by simply typing http://pcname/filename.html in my Blackberry browser.
