Hey Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone could shed a little light on these Blackberry Web Signals that launched recently. I'm confused as to how these are special in any way, or at least different than say the AP News app and the Wall Street Journal Mobile Reader? Both these apps have a "new content" indicator on their respective icons when new information arrives on the server, just as the New York Times and Reuters Web Signal icons do now as well. These new web signal apps appear to be just web page icons, whereas apps such as the WSJ Mobile Reader and the AP News are much more akin to actual applications with a wealth of constantly updating content.

Just confused as to the benefits of these web signals. What exactly is being pushed to the blackberry, new news content? Just kind of struggling here to see the value over and above some other pre-existing apps.

I can't give you a formal technology distinction but I agree that it looks like a pushed system which has unimpressed me so far.

Not to mention a huge battery drain by the push services.
