Unlocking a Blackberry phone

My giirlfriend has just purchased a brand new Blackerry Storm, she brought it from ebay but the phone seems to be in good condition. Her plan was to use it on vodafone but on a pay as you go basis. She took it into her local Vodafone shop today but was told there was no way she would be able to use it as a pay as you go phone and get all the features out of it.
Her prefered choice would be to get the phone unlocked and then put in an 02 pay as you go sim.
If she gets it unlocked would she still have access to all the blackberry features? She is concerned that she wouldn't.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
