Default Buying a at&t 8110

Please Login to Remove!

I have the ld school at&t service, blue sim card...before cingular. I just bought an unlocked 8110 on ebay that has GPS. Will I be able to use the "AT&T Navigator for turn by turn directions" or any of the GPS functions as my data connection is odd at times?

Thanks,

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan provisioned on your account?
If not, then AT&T navigator will not work.

I do, I do. But, it is still an old sim and I have had some issues with other apps working correctly. Guess I will have to try it out. I needed a new bb anyhow, mine is sooo beat up.

AT&T will swap your SIM for free if you go to one of their stores.

I use AT&T Navigator - very nice - but I hope you're aware that it isn't free.

Not free?!?!?! grrr. They have offerd to swap my sim, but then they have to put me on a new plan. My old plan is awesome, and honestly, cant be beat.
I guess I will be playing around with some free maps and such...

Thats odd. You can just buy a sim card and change it on your account, you don't have to change your plan. I know that sometimes when you are talking with customer service reps you will get different answers, but they don't have to change your plan. And from working with sprint blackberries, I know that even if a plan is no longer available, you can look at expired plans and add them on just fine. You aren't supposed to as a rep, but nothing happens if you do. Believe me, I do it all the time for people. Sounds like the guy you spoke with didn't know what was going on?

Hope this helps

My guess is, after reading the OP's sig, it seems like he is on an old blue plan, in which case ATT will not swap his SIM card without making him migrate to an Orange plan. Even with a new SIM however, the old Blue service books might not allow access to ATT navigator.

To the OP, check out Howard Forums if you are looking for a Blue SIM, there is a small group of loyal blue users that have a large stash of these old SIMs.

You are spot on! I pay about 64.00 a month for 1700 min, free night and weekends (7pm-7am), 1000 text messages, 100% free data (to include tethering to laptop) and enterprise blackberry. This is why I won’t go to a new plan. My phone gets mMode service books still, lol. Howord, eh? Ill have to cruse over there.

So I actually got the phone, unlocked, at&t branded 8110 and its working great! Added to my companies BES and I have full html browser and tethering. Works better than my old, first generation 8100 unlocked from tMobile. I got that old guy when the pearl hit the streets and repaired the hell out of it several times. Also, I knew that Cingular would not last

I think I could say that I swam with it at least three times and have soldered several things back onto it! I would venture to say that I could fix just about anything that could go wrong with the devices.
