Thanks for the info. Good find!
BUT, I just don't get it! If it's true what Boy Genius is saying about the lack of 3G I'm going to go out of my mind. I'm sorry, but the Treo 750, Blackjacks, and Tilts just don't cut it for me on AT&T's network for 3G. I love the updates, but I hope that part of the story is incorrect (and hopefully the full qwerty thing too - wouldn't mind a touchy touch

BG didn't write the article, I did. There are no UMTS or HSDPA data profiles listed for this device. Just GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi.

Sorry, jibi. Didn't mean to steal your credit. Well, lets hope on the earnings call that we get a pleasant surprise. Now, have to find a way to hack into that call...

I am not sure I get it, what is going to be the point of the 9XXX series.....I dont see any real "upgrades" or even anything different than what the 8XXX or even 83XX offers, sorely disappointed, looks like the v2 iPhone it may be then!

a better screen and a newer operating system are the point. Not to mention the possible new keyboard layout and (hopefully) gps and wifi together!

3G will be coming later in '08. Until then, this is what we'll get to pacify us until the 3G devices are released. The release date of the 3G devices has not changed due to the non-3G 9000 model's release. It's simply another device. It's not like this announcement means the 3G devices will be released in '09 or '10 or something. *shrug* I agree that this isn't big news if you were one of the ones waiting on a 3G device.

Hey jibi,
Thanks for the info. I'm trying to read between the lines, so to speak. Since all BlackBerry xx30 models are 3G, do your comments mean that the CDMA Curve xx30 model will be introduced/launched by RIM in Q2 of 2008?

Will this have a faster processor and more internal memory? That would be good enough for me.

I know most will see me as a troll but I have said these things before when i was on BB fulltime (now 50/50). But is this another case of RIM stretching the life span of their devices?
With the current models they milked them for all their worth with a base model, then add GPS here and there then add wifi here and there. It seems to be a trend, and I'm not saying its bad business but it drives alot of people crazy to see this as almost the same thing happening all over again.
I'm hoping for a speed / appearance upgrade in the OS. Other than those and 3G, I would be happy.
Thanks for the insight jibi, go Chris Todd in '08

3G will not do a thing for me for e-mail, the key reason I have a BlackBerry. WiFi has been tremendous for me!

9000 series is what I'm looking for. It has to have 3g though, so I'll be patient.

Well I have to wait till mid-Dec '08 before I can switch to AT&T (VZW contract). Hopefully a 3G model will be out by then.

It may be that RIMM is still working on improving 3G functionality? I currently use the 8707 because I travel to Korea/Japan a lot, and notice that when using GPRS in the US (on T-Mobile) the battery life is great, but when using 3G (WCDMA UMTS) in Korea and Japan, the batter life sucks. In addition, the device has trouble maintaining connection, especially when using programs like JiveTalk. So, perhaps RIMM is still having trouble with 3G and as a result releasing the 9xxx series without 3G? Just my 2 cents...
