No need for wifi when you have 3g.

I hate this argument. I cant get a good 3G signal in parts of my office, basement, friends house, ....etc. Why not include wi-fi?

I wonder why they didn't include Wi-Fi on this thing. Wi-Fi is making my life better around here where there isn't any unlimited BB data plan here

The only disappointing thing to me is all the negative speculation when people get bitter about not having Wifi. I seriously doubt the developers spent three years designing a revolutionary phone thinking, "... hey, there's this wifi thing but lets screw everyone and leave it out..." It's more realistic that there is a design reason. If I were a guessing man it would probably be space. Perhaps they felt it was a better overall design decision to use the space to support GSM AND CDMA in the phone. That requires two totally different antennas, chips, etc and perhaps space becomes an issue. If that's true, I'm going to guess they have some smart business developers that realize designing a phone that can be cross network compatible with the flip of a software switch is more optimal than appealing to the minority of folks who have a low signal and want wifi.

Err, that's my guess anyway...

One misconception is that a phone with Wifi will go faster than 3G (with good 3G reception). In most cases, this isn't actually true since rendering the data is usually your bottleneck and you are limited by the phones CPU and Browser speed. Thus, Wifi isn't really 'faster' than 3G when it comes to usability. It only benefits people who work in swamps, basements, or out in the boonies, or people who have greedy providers who have crappy data plans, and some other small minority. Again, fiscally makes more sense to cater to the majority...

Not to mention, they knew it was initially going to be on Verizon, and the network is that good, so leaving out wifi isn't as big of an exclusion.
