Default Unremovable stuff

Please Login to Remove!

I prefer to eliminate crap I'm not going to ever use from my gadgets...

Anyone find a way to get rid of all the IM service books? I remove them and they show up again...

What about the icons for Flickr, AOL, YM, WM, and Facebook? I can hide them, but they just bug me... I shouldn't have to waste memory space w/ stuff I'll never use.

All pushed to you from your friendly neighborhood carrier. This is not RIM's fault or a problem with your device.

You can't delete the service books without them coming back, but you can delete the programs themselves in Options > Advanced Options > Applications. I removed all IM clients except AIM from my device this way and they have not returned.

I removed the clients from the applications...

But the icons won't go away... if you click them it takes you to the ota install...

I just don't want them at all...

bummer about the service books... my 8703 didn't have all that crap... I wouldn't mind it if I used the app... but why potentially open up my device to unwanted communcations? (which is essentially what Service Books do I think.)

Strange. When I deleted mine they disappeared from the device all together. I'd suggest just plain hiding them then.

I'm fairly certain your 8703 also had service books. What you might be thinking of instead is that you didn't have these programs - probably because the OS was not compatible with them (my best guess, not necessarily right). I also doubt that there will be any unwanted communications unless you actually use the programs.

I believe it's the presence of the service books that are responsible for the icons. If you delete the book it should delete the icon, but yes they will keep coming back. You can either hide the icons, or create a folder and move them all to that and just hide the folder.
