Default VZW Blackberry Curve in South Korea

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,

I searched for my question across several threads, and I can't seem to find a consistent answer, as there seem to be contradicting accounts. So...

I'm about to travel to South Korea for about 2 weeks. I checked to see if South Korea was offered coverage from VZW's website and it was offered. I called a customer service rep, and asked them to activate the international data plan service for the 2 weeks, and they have it scheduled to turn on, with the charge being pro-rated for the time I'm in the country. I updated my roaming capabilities, and according to him, I should be good to go as soon as I turn on my phone when I land. My question:

People here have stated that they haven't been able to get data service there. Could someone possibly clarify? I don't want to get charged for something that isn't going to work. I'm going to turn off the voice/call capabilities and simply use it for email - so this is purely for the data/email/internet. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

According to Verizon's website, you are in good shape.

Please let us know how it works out.

Yes. All providers in South Korea provide CDMA EVDO service in the 800 MHz band.

The only other service provided is UMTS/HSDPA in the 2100 MHz band.

I guess no one knows at the moment, eh? I'll hold out for an answer until I go away. If not, I'll try to come back and let everyone know how it goes for future reference. Thanks!

Default Great Service - GPS Not so good

I just got back from S. Korea a week ago and my phone worked flawlessly for data and phone service. Also in Japan perfectly. The only issue I have is the GPS does not seem to pick up there. Not even with Google Maps really. Trying to work that issue out.

Anyone got a solution for the map service in Korea?
