Default Blackberry Storm 2 Question

Please Login to Remove!

I know this phone hasn't released yet but I"m looking forward to it. However I've got a few questions on Wifi and plans to sign up on. I want to use it as a regular phone with my Verizon Unlimited text, pix and video messages along with my calling plan but also use the wifi for hitting hot spots to check email and browse online without purchasing the data plan. Is this all possible to do or will it be possible to do on this phone? I hope I explained this well enough.

you want to get a storm 2 and not the data plan but use wifi when its available.

if i read verizons policy all smart phones require you to have a data plan. not sure if theres a way to get around this.

It is possible for you to use a blackberry without a data plan but all you be able to do is make phone calls. To be able to use any messaging capabilities you must have a data package. I believe they used to not require a data package to be able to text but you were charged a pretty good bit for every text you sent or received. I'm pretty sure though now especially on verizon you can't text at all without the data package. And another thing that is if you purchase a smart phone with a 2 year contract they REQUIRE you to get a data package. No way around it unless you have a smart phone without a contract.

I've known of people to get bb's with the 2 year agreement and wanna change/swap the service to a non data required phone and there not being a problem. But I have also recently heard that they now require you to keep the data package unless you report the phone as lost/stolen and then they block the phone(bad esn) so no one else can use it.

Moving this thread to the General 9500 section-more traffic there, and a likelihood of more repsonses.
