Question 8700 Speed dial question?

Please Login to Remove!

I reccently purchased a new BB 8700r. I used a BB 8290 before that. I was hoping my problem may have been solved with the new BB 8700r. The problem I have is when I speed dial, dial from address book, or from the recent call list the BB or the system (not sure which) automatically adds a 1 and the area code to make it appear to be a long distance call. I spend the majority of my time (at work) right on the border of two of the long distance areas. So when I make a call I am never sure if I am going to be charged long distance or not. As a result I never use speed dial, dial from address book, or from the recent call list features of the phone. Which means manually dialing in each number each time, big drag. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Is your area code specified in phone options (under smart dialing)?

So what? I put the +1 (area code) in front of every number. What does it matter? Are you being charged for long distance? The North American Dialing Plan (NADP) works just fine with +1 (area code) in front of the number...

If you do not want the 1 to show, simply go to Options, smart dialing, and choose "No" for the option labeled Use "1" for national dialing. That should do it. But as far as being long distance because the one is showing, NJBlackBerry is right it doesnt matter.

So you're saying regardless of the 1 and area code the system will decide if it is to be a long distance call or not?? I am too lazy to check my phone bill for call charges!

Thanks

That's the way it has worked for years.

In "overlay" areas - a location that shares two area codes like New York City, you have to have the +1 (area code).
