Default inbox subfolders * No Messages *

Please Login to Remove!

Day 1
-User added to BES, selected all folders for redirection
-Handset : Wireless Enterprise Activated successfully , all messages sync'd including those that reside in subfolders...great!!

Day 50
However I had problems with the handset, so I wiped the device.

-Deleted the user from BES
-Restarted server
-Added user back, selected all folders for redirection

This time when I go to View Folder, and select any Folder on the handset that should contain email, I get * No Messages *

Some subfolders contain emails, that appear to have been filed when the user was added to BES manager (Day 50) to present

The handset is configured to hide filed messages, and reconciliation Mailbox and Handset

I spent the whole day on this, and have been advised that once a user is added to BES and fully sync’d to a device, and the device wiped, it is not possible to retrieve subfolder emails, even on a different handset.

Please help me prove otherwise, as I desperately need this fixed.

iHateBes,

What mail platform are you running? Domino or Exchange and what BES version?

It should ideally get syncronised but what i do is that enable the same settings on the device as well.

Go to messages-->options-->email settings.

Click the menu and folder redirection and confirm if the check marks are replicated here as well.

Exactly. When you activate a device the prepopulation only occurs for the inbox by default. Subfolders would show but not the content of them unless you specify that folder for reconciliation. This process helps keep the amount of data transferred at an effecient level and speeds up activations - most people don't need all their prior subfolder content on their mobile device, hense it being left out by default.

Hi Thanks Guys for the reply.

Currently running Exchange 2003 and BES Manager 4.1.4.15

I checked the device for folder redirection and some folders were ticked. I selected all for redirection, reconcile now ...however this did not push old / new emails to the handset subfolders.

I'm I right in saying that handset should replicate the same folders and emails that appear in the user's outlook account, regardless of age or quantity?

Also just checked the exchanger server event log and found multiple instances of this error;

EVENT ID: 9646
Mapi session "/o=EXCHANGESERVER/ou=first administrative group/cn=Recipients/cn=BESadmin" exceeded the maximum of 500 objects of type "objtFolder".

FYG this user has a massive mailbox, with loads of inbox subfolders - total mailbox size is 5GB.

Thinking out aloud: Is there a parameter that needs to be switched on for the handset to accept more messages or something?

It will sync as of the point redirection to that subfolder was enabled - it will not grab prior emails (I believe).

You certainly have a MAPI error going on as well, but that mailbox is massive. Perhaps it archive time.

The handheld will only sync / pull down messages that have arrived at the mailbox after you've enabled redirection to that subfolder. During an EA you can grab messages outside of just the inbox by following KB13375 ... and you can increase the message amount by following KB11632. BES doesn't do a "sync all", it has a pre-defined amount it will grab.
