noob to BB cant download apps
Please Login to Remove!
I have a curve 8310. I've been trying to download "Blackberry app world" "Slacker radio" "Pandora" among other apps and cant get any.
Also my browser is slow!
I keep getting error messages like "907 invalid cod" or "HTTP error 502: bad gateway"
I've pulled battery
cleared cache
I've upgraded to OS 4.5.0.182
t-mobile is my provider.
I have blackberry data plan.
I've been searching but I am a noob and get a little confused with some terms

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
So, I've already done google search and came across those links. many of there issues is because they don't have bb data plan.
I did do my OS upgrade when I got my phone before trying to do any downloads or browsing. should I maby downgrade to previous stock OS?

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
Well, nobody can seem to help here but I will keep putting my input in on my problem.
I ran js_cmdr to wipe phone. still no luck.
I got myself a new sim card and this helped a little. browser is still slow! This phone has nothing saved on it. I had faster internet with my samsung galaxy pos phone.
Is this normal for this phone. Is it just garbage or what?
Anybody want to buy a curve 8310?

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
Where do things stand now, exactly. Were you able to wipe the BlackBerry with JL_CMDER or not?
Also, take just one problem and explain exactly what's happening, in detail.
Slow browser doesn't mean much. If you are on GPRS and trying to load a full HTML page, it's going to be slow.
Details.

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
Yes JL_CMDER did wipe and I reloaded OS v4.5.01.188
I am on EDGE not GPRS. Not sure the difference.
I have a slow browser as in it can take up to 5 min to get to the home screen when opening the browser. the page doesn't really matter.

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
Put the browser issue aside for the moment.
After you reinstalled the OS, were you able to download and install the apps you wanted?

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
No real difference at all. After I got a new sim I was able to get a app downloaded but it took about 5 times to get it download. And it doesn't work properly.

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
But you downloaded it, and it installed, with no errors which you had reported in your original post?
So, now what you have is slow browser, and an app that doesn't work properly.
Two questions at this point:
Look at what apps you have running other than the core BlackBerry apps. Close them all. Make sure they are not running in the background. Fully exit them all. Now test the browser. Is it better?
Other question: The app you now successfully downloaded and installed that doesn't work properly, test it after you've closed all other running apps. Does it work? If not, how, exactly is it not working properly?

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
I have no apps running on my phone. I've shut down everything and the phone was completely wiped.
The app I downloaded and only app i've been able to download is Slacker radio from slacker.com. When I try to log in I get "login failed. error code 502"
When I try to visit sites on my browser or even do a google search i get messages like.
"unable to connect to the wap gateway at the following address
APN: wap.voicestream.com
IP 216.155.165.50
Port:9201"

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
Do you have a BB data plan?
EDGE is slow - barely faster than dial up and you are not going get any faster with that device. The 8310 is not 3G capable as it doesn't have a 3G radio.

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
On the slacker radio issue, it looks like to solve the that problem you need to grant all permissions requested. This is what I see reported when I search. Set all permissions to allow. So, if you didn't, try it and see if it works. Also look in the app options and see if you have the ability to specify the connection mode. If so, experiment.
On the browser, slowness or failure to open a page are often corrected by clearing the cache, and sometimes also clearing cookies.
I don't know why you are getting a failure to connect to the carrier gateway. All I can advise is make sure you are receiving the mobile signal. If it is barely one bar on the indicator, that would explain failures to load a page. If the signal is strong and you still have problems connecting, resend service books and do a hard reset. (See How do I resend my service books? - BlackBerryFAQ.)

I do have BB data plan as stated in my first post. and I understand this phone isn't the best but I have virtually no internet. My girlfriends samsung galaxy (original version) is faster and she doesn't have a data plan.

All my permissions are set to Allow. and I've experimented with the settings.
I have full bars and my signal is usually in the -70db area.
I will try and get the service books resent and let you know what I find.
Thanks

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
So it seems the signal is pretty strong and solid.
I just wanted to confirm that it is a BB data plan that you have. Many times, members think they have one and really do not. Thanks for confirming it.
I am thinking that OS 4.5 takes more memory that the original OS 4.2 that it shipped with. Plus it only has 64 MB of memory. That might be at least part of the problem. A battery pull will usually clear out the old stuff and you have done that also.

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
Memory is a good point. OP says only downloaded the one app so far, but definitely will have to pick and choose and watch free memory.

Re: noob to BB cant download apps
So I finally got this thing working.
2 problems.
The APN on my TCP was set to cingular instead of tmobile.
Also when registering the host routing table I wasn't highlighting the bold content. I was just registering off the first numbers.

Wish we could see profiles in mobile view.
Glad you got it working. Didn't occur to me that the TCP/IP settings would have been set for a different carrier.

kinda my fault. I don't think I stated that this phone was at&t before I cracked it to work with t-mobile.
I've learned lots about blackberry through this.
My browser still is garbage at home even though I get full bars at home. I go a mile down the road and get worse cell service but the internet is great. I guess the internet an cell service is off a different tower. Either way, I think it's working as good as a non 3g phone can work now.
