Default BlackBerry Bold 9790 won't sync with Mac

Hi everyone,

After several fruitless phone calls to my mobile carrier and RIM support, I'm putting this query out into the world, in hopes that someone can help.

Here's the dilemma ...

I've recently upgraded to a BlackBerry Bold 9790.
I have the most recent BlackBerry Desktop software for my Mac laptop, which is running Mac OS X 10.5.8.

Whenever I try to sync the phone with the computer -- using the new USB cable mailed to me -- my laptop will "detect" that the phone is there, launch Desktop Manager, but do nothing else.

I'm unable to sync any information. There's been no error messages given. Desktop Manager will simply indicate it's "connecting" before giving up without notice.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Please note:
I've gone through the basic "Troubleshooting" options. Between upgrading software, reinstallation, restarting, checking mass-storage mode -- I'm unsure of what to do next.
The phone appears to connect properly to a friend's PC.

Are you connecting the device directly to the laptop or through a hub?

Hi dc/dc, I've been plugging the device directly into my laptop. I've tried all USB ports, but same response each time.

Odd. Do you have Parallels or VMWare Fusion installed?

I think the latest DM requires OSX 10.6. Not 100% certain, but from what I have read elsewhere that is the case. I am running 10.6.8 and have had no trouble at all.

if it is the first time you sync, try clicking on calendar and then change to "two way sync". repeat this process for contacts and any other item you want to sync and then it should work.
